In case, you were sleeping or something, it was to wake you up. The fire alarms for which the fire dept would come by themselves are when the building is on fire and the louder building alarm sets off, which the dept must come to turn off.<BR/><BR/>Also, if your house alarm goes off and you know what has caused it, and you want to turn it off, just fan the air around the alarm with a newspaper or a magazine or something.
